Foods to Consume When You Are Pregnant

Food and nutrition is a topic of concern when one is pregnant. You are in problems if you want to avoid eating properly to shun weight gain. Remember a pregnant woman feeds herself and the fetus through the placenta.

A pregnancy period is also associated with food craving. Although, each pregnant woman will have her own unique food cravings, it is imperative that what is being consumed will ensure proper growth of the baby.

When expectant, you may be forced to stop consuming some foods and drinks until after you give birth. Foods that include proteins are some of the most beneficial during pregnancy. Nutritionists recommend eating more proteins during the first three months of pregnancy as it is during this period that a baby’s key organs are developing.

Proteins, otherwise called bodybuilding foods are required for growth purposes. A pregnant woman has the option of eating vegetarian proteins like beans that ensure cellular development or eat animal proteins. For example, there are many women that crave certain types of meat when pregnant and this could include chicken which is very high in protein. Eggs and milk are other animal protein options that could be considered but usually a mother who can eat every protein type is likely to have a healthy pregnancy.

Even so, there are some foods that you want to stay away from. According to food experts, some of these foods may contain bacteria that can harm your baby. Eat natural foods such as fruits and vegetables to increase your blood level, to aid digestion and to improve the skin appearance. These are foods you cannot avoid during pregnancy. Some women do not like citric fruits during pregnancy because they have too much acid and even though the choice of fruits is up to the pregnant woman, it is advised that one asks their doctor for advice. Sugars are definitely not recommended when you’re expectant.

Good Luck to all the expectant mothers!

Maintain a Healthy Body by Incorporating A Balance of Protein, Vitamins and Carbs In Your Diet

In recent years, it has become increasingly important for many people to maintain a healthy weight. Also, many people want to have good overall health. To ensure good health, food cannot be eliminated from one’s daily life.

Food is every living being’s basic need for survival. Without it human body’s immune system becomes weaker while eating too much food results in weight gain in the long run. Therefore a person must know how to use food to his or her benefit.

According to health experts, food is grouped into three main categories – proteins, vitamins and carbohydrates. The first category is protein, alternatively called the body building foods. Without adequate proteins a child’s active body cannot develop normally and an adult’s body cannot have adequate strength to fight diseases. Animal proteins include meat, milk, fish, chicken, and pork among others. Plant protein is contained in leguminous foods such as beans, soya and others. Another category of food is vitamins. There are several types of vitamins and mineral salts. These include vitamin A, B, C, D and others. Each type contributes certain nutrients to the human body. Vitamins improve the skin appearance, aid blood clotting, have healing properties and reduce constipation.

Vitamins are contained in different fruits and vegetables. Minerals are contained in the same foods and include iron, potassium, zinc and magnesium among others.

The last category is carbohydrates, alternatively called energy giving foods. You require carbohydrates to have enough energy to work. Fats and sugars are normally termed as carbohydrates.

At the end of the day, we are all advised to include all the above food categories in balanced proportions and include physical activity in our lives in order to live healthy in the long run.
