Obesity – A Medical Condition to be Treated Early

Obesity is nothing but the “medical condition where the body fat which is in excess is accumulated and may cause some adverse effect on individual’s health”. It can be differentiated as syndromic and non-syndromic obesity. In case of syndromic, the obese condition features the syndromes like “Prader-Willi syndrome”, “Bardet-Biedl syndrome”. Obesity is expressed as “body mass index” and explained as the excess fat distribution along the “waist hip ratio”. BMI i.e., “Body mass index” is related to ‘percentage body fat’. The healthy weight in children of different age varies with their sex as well. Obesity cannot be expressed as an absolute number but can be given as a percentile of a normal group. If the BMI is greater than 95 % it is considered as obesity.

With the increase in obesity there is an increase in the chance of various diseases especially diseases of the heart, diabetes, difficulties in breathing. Obesity is generally caused by accumulation of excess dietary calories, less physical activity. Sometimes obesity is genetically determined, which is caused by genes, endocrine disorders.

Obese people gain more weight even with less intake of food due to slow metabolism. They require more of energy i.e., their energy consumption is more when compared to non obese people as they require more energy to maintain their heavy body mass.

Obesity can be controlled naturally by physical exercise and dieting. There are artificial ways of controlling obesity which is done using drugs which are taken to reduce appetite or reduces fat absorption. There are other ways to reduce obesity like surgery or insertion of intragastric balloon which reduces the stomach volume or the bowel length which leads to earlier satiation and reduces the ability of stomach to absorb nutrients from the food intake.

Electronic Synthesizers in Music

Synthesizers are the heart of modern music. Synthesizers generate electrical signals that are played. They generate timbers and also are able to imitate other musical instruments. Synthesizers are capable of creating many types of sounds using many different programs and algorithms.

The most common of these are synthesizers in additive, subtractive, wavetable, phase distortion and sample based etc. Synthesizers are controlled with piano-like keyboards, synthesizers are therefore commonly known as “keyboards”.

The first successful and easily usable synthesizer was developed by Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center in 1958, it was called the RCA Mark II Sound Synthesizer. And by 1980 Synthesizers were sold.

Synthesizers are like computers, they create digital signals based on their database and this database can often be updated by the use of patches that the manufacturers release for their uses.

Though the early synthesizers used only analogue signals, modern synthesizers use both analogue and digital signals and use them varyingly to produce sounds.

Here are the descriptions of some of the synthesizers that these machines use:
1) Additive synthesizer: waveforms are added to create different sounds.
2) Subtractive synthesizer: These synthesizers use acoustic models which are approximated by a signal generator along with a filter in the process.
3) Frequency Modulation synthesizer: FM synthesizers are used to modify a voice. This needs at least two generators.
4) Granular synthesizer: This synthesis is used to put even the smallest potions of a sample apart.
5) Physical modeling synthesizer: This synthesis is used to simulate sound from a real instrument.

These are the most common types of synthesizers that musicians use to put together amazing sounds, and provide the breeze of moderness to the world of Music

The Development of Arabian Music

The most dominant forms of music in the Arab world are the Pop, Arabian classic, secular music and religious music. The Arab world is dominated by the factors of Islam, which constricts things such as music. Even after the complete domination and conversion of the Arab world to Islam, the religious constrictions failed to restrict the people from listening to music. The Condition of the Arab world is divided into two periods, the pre-Islamic period and the Islamic period. The conditions of music were different at the two different times.

The instruments that were commonly used in Arabian music are Oud, Rebec, Rebab, Fistula, drums.

The development of the Arabian music roots to poetry of the pre-Islamic period when the poets used to recite poems with a high musical rhythm. Music also played a vital role amongst the Arabs in their beliefs regarding mysticism; music was used to exorcise and to pray to Gods. The vocals were not done by the men during the pre-Islamic times, and women did the singing as they had voices that are more serene.

After Islam came to the Arab world, the ways of poetry, previously done, changed. In addition, the ways of music previously used was described as a crime. However, the Musical developments went on.

Two of the Notable musicians of the Islamic Arabian world were Al-Kindi and Al-farabi. Al-Kindi is from the early 8th century and has been considered one of the great musicians of all time. Al-Farabi is from the mid 8th century whose tones are still used in the modern Arab world.

The way the Arabian music developed was very restrictive. However, the musicians continued to make their music and have had had success until now. The Music of the Arab world is thus unique in many senses.
